Dear Members, The Next Century Foundation would like to address the ongoing conflict in the Republic of Sudan.

The challenges facing Sudan are not isolated crises but consequences of an ongoing conflict that demands urgent action. The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces has led to the displacement of more than 12 million people, making it one of the world’s largest displacement crises.

Addressing displacement, food insecurity, and civilian protection requires renewed political engagement and coordinated international action. We urge member states to support initiatives that protect civilians and uphold the rights of the Sudanese people. We further urge countries, including the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, to refrain from actions that may further escalate the conflict and instead support efforts towards de-escalation, dialogue, and sustainable peace.

Additionally, we call on all relevant parties to work closely with humanitarian organisations and international partners to ensure the safe, unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance to alleviate suffering across Sudan.

Lastly, we call on the SAF and RSF to engage in meaningful negotiations, recognising that humanitarian needs will continue to grow as violence persists. Constructive engagement among all parties is necessary to create the conditions for lasting peace and recovery in Sudan.
