Amidst the horrid natural calamity hitting the Syrians, there has been no western assistance or no efforts by western NGOs in proactively providing aid to the cities which are now under rubble. There had been very little help going into the rebel held areas of Syria. However, it is not just north-west Syria but also central region of Syria which has been gravely affected by the earthquake. From Aleppo to Latakia, Homs and Hama no aid is getting through. In these tough times when as an international community we should come together and help Syria and Turkey both, it is very evidently noted that Syrians are being neglected be it for the unstable peace process of 12 years of civil war going on in the country or due to the crossings being not opened for rescuing people. Such collective disregard for the aggrieved by the west has only made Syrians die unassisted after days of earthquake.

Combination of earthquakes and civil war catastrophe has exacerbated the situation in Syria on several levels.

As response to the deadly earthquake Next Century Foundation has initiated a donation appeal for the devastating situation in Syria. Unfortunately, Syria has not been on the maps for the international community to look after and is being completely neglected. Though, we maintain this with the utmost sympathy for the people affected in Turkey humanitarian aid and medical essentials are not being brought into Syria or being sent to it.

We have our man on the ground in Beirut, Head of NCF UK, Jaafer El-Ahmar collecting the donations made so far from the Western Union. Three separate transfers have been made to him as of now. The donations will be used to buy essential medicines and basic necessities. Things are moving but are slow-paced, but the first consignment of medical aid for the injured has been sent out now to the hospitals. We appeal to each and everyone to pace up this process. We appeal to you to donate and help the ones really affected right now due to an unjust and corrupt environment.

The extreme difficulties in getting help into Syria following the earthquake. The breakdown of the Lebanese financial system and US banking sanctions against Syrian and Lebanese banks pose the largest obstacle, making it necessary to send payments through Western Union or to arrange for someone to bring in dollars in order to transmit money from the UK to Lebanon where medical supplies for Syria have to be sourced.

Your money will be used in SYRIA and only in and for SYRIA and will be traceable in the NCF’s audited accounts. We will supply goods in the worst hit areas: Homma countryside, Aleppo City and Latakia. Goods will be those unavailable locally since the disaster. A full list will be published here as we continue to assess what is required. Our own network of volunteers in Damascus and throughout Syria will distribute the aid and resources that you provide, in cooperation where necessary with Syria’s Aramea Foundation.

Every effort counts.
